Three words — Passion Professionalism Performance — summarize CMHC’s 66-year history as Canada’s national housing agency. Since it first opened its doors, CMHC has responded to the ever-changing housing needs of Canadians with passion and professionalism. We can be proud that Canada has a solid housing system owing to both strong public oversight and an efficient market that is able to fulfill a range of housing needs.In 2012, CMHC continued to strengthen Canada’s financial and housing systems by:
- providing federal investments in housing programs for low-income Canadians and for First Nation communities;
- facilitating access to homeownership and rental housing, including nursing and retirement homes, throughout Canada through mortgage loan insurance;
- ensuring a reliable supply of funds for mortgage lending and opportunities for investors to invest in high quality, secure investments through CMHC’s securitization guarantee programs;
- administering a new legal framework for Canadian covered bonds which will further help diversify sources of funds for lenders;
- being a trusted source of housing information and market analysis; and
- carrying out its business in a manner that maximizes social and economic contributions and minimizes environmental impacts.
